Quincy - Day 7

Today we were pleasantly surprised when the NDAA let Jeff out early, giving us time to see more of the sites!
(We tried to make the most of every minute and Packer was so good to go along with us.)
At around noon, we drove to Quincy (formerly Braintree), the birthplace of John Adams (the 2nd US President) and his son John Quincy Adams (the 6th US President).
Here is a statue of Abigail Adams and her son John Quincy

This is the old church where they are buried.
While waiting for our tour to start, we had lunch at Papa Ginos.

We ordered the Fenway Pizza, named after the Boston Red Sox's stadium.
It was pretty yummy.
Our tour started out at John Adam's birthplace home.  Before he married, he had his law office in this house (his parents' house)

Immediately in front of his parents' home is the home he and Abigail raised their children in.

After John and Abigail returned from Europe, this is the home they purchased and lived in (except for when he was President).  This is the home he died in.  John Quincy and his wife also lived in this home (and died in it as well).

The edifice next to the home, covered in ivy, is a library that John Quincy had built.  It is fireproof and filled with books, three books deep and several shelves high.  John Quincy could read over ten languages.

We learned so much about John and John Quincy, as well as about their two very remarkable wives.  These four individuals were as indispensable as Thomas Jefferson and others.  John Adams nominated George Washington to lead the continental army.  John Adams helped draft some of and argued for the Declaration of Independence as one of the chief supporters.  And there is so much more.

After visiting these historic places, we had dinner (after getting stuck in traffic) at IHOP.
