Boston and Plymouth- Day 2

We got up early and headed out to see more of the Freedom Trail.  The weatherman last night predicted rain, so we knew our time was limited.

We traversed the Boston Commons again.

We made it back to the Old South Meeting House and looked inside.

Next, along the Trail, we saw the Old State House.  The Boston Massacre took place just outside this building.

This is Faneuil Hall.

We worked our way into little Italy and came to Paul Revere's house.  The drizzle was starting to pick up about this point.

Behind this statute of Paul Revere is the Church where the lantern was lit for Paul Revere, signaling that the "British were coming!"

This cemetery sits near the Church and by the Charles River.  At this point you would cross the river to head to Bunker Hill.  It had begun to rain.  We decided to visit Bunker Hill later, in a car.

We retraced our steps along the Freedom Trail.
The rain was getting heavier.  As we entered Little Italy (a section of downtown Boston heavily populated by Italians), we stopped at a local cafe and ordered a Canoli.  There were two older men, sitting in chairs by the entrance, chatting away in Italian.

This is another view of the Old State House.

Packer kept from getting too wet, but his parents were soaked.
We entered the cemetery near the start of the Freedom Trail and saw the tomb stones of Hancock, Adams, and Revere.

We needed to vacate our apartment by a certain time and we made it back with two minutes to spare--literally.  We had some stressful adventures trying to take the subway to speed up our return to the apartment before our keycode expired.  Needless to say, the subway system in Boston is not as user friendly as D.C.'s.  We then raced through the rain to the subway, again lugging our luggage and pushing Packer.  We rode the subway into Cambridge, not far from MIT and Harvard and across the Charles River.  The rental car we had reserved was at a hotel in this district.  As we ascended the steps, carrying our luggage and baby, we exited into a torrential downpour.  We waited some time in the doorway of a shop, managing to keep ourselves mostly sheltered from the rain.  The rain let up a little and we raced down the street a few blocks, making it to the hotel where Budget had its Boston Office.  We were soaked.  Jeff waited in line for some time, worried our reservation may have been canceled.  In the end, however, we got our rental and set off.

We planned to stop in Quincy (formerly Braintree).  However, with about an hour and a half set back, we proceeded onward to Plymouth.  It rained the whole way.  In Plymouth we got to see the Plymouth Rock.

We saw a recreation of the Mayflower.

William Bradford.

We drove by the Plymouth Plantation, but decided not to go inside.  It is similar to Jamestown.  Jeff surprised us and took us to a bed and breakfast in Middleborough, "On Cranberry Pond."  The home was built next to a Cranberry bog.  It was a lot of fun and very unique.

The cranberry bog is behind us

Close up on the cranberries

Love this cheesy smile! :)

Behind the flowers and the dirt road is the pond/bog where cranberries grow and are harvested.  We had this view from our room.

That evening we ate dinner at a nearby, local Italian restaurant.
