Early in the morning we left Lexington and drove to Concord, New Hampshire. Here we saw the Capital Building.
New Hampshire is a beautiful state.
Packer did really well with all of our travels!
We made our way through New Hampshire, entering another beautiful state: Vermont.
Trying to get a picture of Packer's second tooth that came in that day.
Sharon, Vermont.
We were able to see the Prophet's birthplace. An amazing obelisk memorializes this great man.
This is the foundation of the home Joseph Smith was born in. The exact hearthstone and porch are still in the original place.
Lucy Mack's parents' home (or its foundation, I should say) is not far away.
This used to be the main highway back in Joseph's day
We looked inside the visitor's center and saw a life size statute of the Prophet. One of the attending missionaries told us that this statute was gifted in 2005 when President Hinckley commemorated Joseph Smith's 200th birthday here in Sharon. He told us that President Hinckley commented that this statute was the closest likeness of the Prophet he had ever seen, except for the statute's being one or two inches taller than the Prophet.
We loved all the trees! That is one thing we really miss about living back East.
This is a special place. There is a special spirit here. It was a highlight of our trip and very worth the detour.
We drove back to the Boston area and made our way to the Boston Temple grounds.
We saw a little bunny on the temple grounds
After seeing the temple, we headed back into downtown Boston, crossing over the Charles River into Cambridge and driving through MIT.
We then drove by and saw the harbor where the Boston Tea Party took place.
We again crossed the river and drove to Bunker Hill.
This is the end of the Freedom Trail (although the Trail continues to Lexington and Concord; the Trail, by the way, is the path Revere rode).
Although we did not win this battle, we could have won it if we had had enough ammunition. Regardless, we showed the British that the American rebels were a force to be reckoned with.
We next drove to Harvard University, stopping at the Harvard Law School.
Future Harvard Law Student. ha ha
As it began to get dark, we made our way to the Marriott Hotel where we would spend the rest of our time in Massachusetts. Jeff's conference was at this hotel in Danvers, Massachusetts.
